Trey Anastasio's Song Dedications to Renee on Nov. 26th, 2005 at the Fillmore, Denver
(Play both songs at end of story)
I met Trey Anastasio, lead singer from Phish at the Fillmore in Denver on Nov. 26th, 2005. It was Renee’s 21st birthday and she had just passed away that August. I was listening to the radio and painting one evening after she had passed on & remember asking her out loud, ‘Please give me a sign that you are there!’ Just then, there was an announcement on the radio that Trey would be playing at the Fillmore in Denver ON Renee’s birthday, Nov. 26th. She was a huge Trey & Phish fan. I could hardly believe it! Trey, in Denver, on Renee's birthday! I knew I had to go and that I'd just been given an assignment. It was just too serendipitous!
We arrived at the Fillmore a little early that evening of Nov. 26th before the show began. I had a mission in mind. I had to meet Trey in person, so I walked across the floor, passed all the security to the main stage and saw Trey walking through a hallway backstage. Off I went, ignoring that muscular fellow guarding the door and walked up right to Trey. ‘I’ve got to talk with you,’ I said as I handed him a memorial card about Renee. He told security it was ok, as he compassionately listened to Renee’s story. He was so kind and said he would dedicate a song to her. He dedicated 2 that night. Renee’s spirit really was ‘bouncin’ around the room,’ and the crowd joined in the sweet sentiment of the moment as Trey talked about Renee to the sold-out crowd. I know she was with us all and had been with me all that evening, leading me right up to Trey. I don’t think my feet had even touched the ground.
I truly believe Renee wanted to share her spirit from the other side and remind us all that the veil between this world and the other side is thin and very real.
Love,
Jane, Renee’s mom
